Job Description – Site Manager
This document outlines the key responsibilities and expectations of a Site Manager. It is intended as a general guide to the role and should not be considered an exhaustive list of duties. The successful candidate will be expected to use their initiative and professional judgement where required.

Reporting Structure
The Site Manager will report directly to the Project Manager. From time to time, communication may also be required with the Operations Manager and other members of senior leadership, depending on project needs.
Role Overview
The Site Manager will take full responsibility for the successful delivery of one or multiple sites, depending on project scale, complexity, and programme requirements. This includes overseeing all phases of the project lifecycle, from early-stage mobilisation (where applicable) through to final completion.
A key part of the role is ensuring that all internal procedures, as outlined within the Quality Management System (QMS), are consistently followed. The Site Manager will also coordinate and supervise Site Supervisors and installation teams to ensure efficient delivery.
Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, main contractors, and other subcontractors is essential to the success of the role.
Working Hours
Working hours will be in line with the employment contract and aligned with site requirements and any applicable local agreements.
Communication & Administration
The Site Manager will be responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate documentation, including reports, schedules, and timesheets, as required by both internal stakeholders and client representatives.
There is an expectation that these responsibilities are managed effectively, which may occasionally require flexibility outside of standard working hours.
Strong communication skills are essential. All written and verbal communication should be clear, concise, and professional, ensuring key information is effectively conveyed to all relevant parties, including site teams, senior management, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
The Site Manager will:
- Oversee daily site operations, ensuring all personnel clearly understand their roles and responsibilities
- Ensure all operatives complete site inductions and adhere to site-specific health and safety procedures
- Confirm that all RAMS are approved prior to works commencing and that teams fully understand and comply with them
- Monitor and enforce all health and safety processes, including toolbox talks, observations, and reporting requirements
- Develop and manage short-term look-ahead programmes in line with the overall project schedule
- Attend and contribute to site safety and coordination meetings, sharing key updates with the wider team
- Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with QAQC standards, programme timelines, and safety expectations
- Identify, document, and report delays or risks to senior management in a timely manner
- Ensure all required resources (labour, materials, plant, and tools) are available to support delivery
- Verify that all personnel are suitably trained, qualified, and competent for their roles
- Oversee the completion and submission of QAQC documentation upon completion of works
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of daily records and labour tracking
- Monitor project costs and labour allocation, taking corrective action where necessary
- Maintain accurate project records, including variations, delays, and material tracking
While certain responsibilities may be delegated, overall accountability for project delivery remains with the Site Manager.

Health & Safety Focus
Ensuring safe working practices is a fundamental responsibility. The Site Manager must promote compliance with RAMS and encourage efficient, forward-thinking approaches to site activities.

All safety concerns, near misses, and examples of good practice should be actively reported and communicated. Transparency and accountability are key.
Professional Conduct
A high standard of professionalism and communication is expected at all times. Any issues or concerns on site should be escalated appropriately.

The Site Manager should take pride in delivering high-quality work and maintaining strong standards across all aspects of the project.
Qualifications & Training
Candidates must demonstrate the appropriate level of experience, knowledge, and training required to perform the role safely and effectively. Ongoing development may be supported where appropriate.
Minimum requirements include:
- CSCS Managers Card (or equivalent)
- SMSTS
- City & Guilds Low Voltage Awareness (CPLV)
- City & Guilds High Voltage Awareness (HVASM)
- MEWP Certification
- Manual Handling
- First Aid
- Meetings / Negotiation Training
- Time Management Training
Reporting Responsibilities
The Site Manager will be responsible for maintaining accurate reporting across both internal systems and client requirements, including:
- Daily progress tracking and site diaries
- Weekly client progress updates
- Quality and compliance reporting
- Health & safety reporting
- Delay and variation tracking
- Timesheet management
- Progress and completion reporting
- Leave coordination
- Toolbox talk delivery and tracking
