Senior Hardware & Robotics Engineer
Location: On-site – Illinois, USA

Insight are partnered with an innovative robotics company developing AI-driven automation systems transforming the construction industry. They are seeking a Senior Hardware & Robotics Engineer to design and develop the mechanical systems and robotic mechanisms powering next-generation automation equipment.

This is a hands-on role working at the intersection of heavy industrial machinery and precision robotics, taking designs from concept through prototyping and into real-world production environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design robotic systems, mechanical mechanisms, and automation equipment

  • Develop detailed CAD assemblies and perform structural analysis/FEA

  • Integrate robotics hardware, motion systems, sensors, and tooling

  • Build and test prototypes in real manufacturing environments

  • Support fabrication, machining, welding, and manufacturing processes

  • Collaborate with software, electrical, and operations teams to deliver integrated systems

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience designing mechanical or automation systems

  • Strong CAD experience (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor or similar)

  • Experience with robotics hardware, motion systems, and precision mechanisms

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, fabrication, and sheet metal

  • Experience taking products from concept through production

  • Hands-on prototyping and ability to work in shop or manufacturing environments

Preferred

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or similar

  • Experience with industrial automation, robotics, or heavy equipment design

  • Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, or electromechanical systems
